CARLTON skipper Chris Judd's dominant performance in his side's come-from-behind win against the Sydney Swans has seen him take the lead in the race to be the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year.

Judd's 33 disposals and 15 clearances earned him a perfect 10 votes from coaches Brett Ratten and John Longmire on Friday night.

Before round six, the Brownlow medalist sat in equal second on the leaderboard with 25 votes, two behind Carlton's Marc Murphy, Western Bulldog captain Matthew Boyd and Collingwood ball magnet Dane Swan.

Those three round five leaders failed to register a vote over the weekend, with Judd's 10 votes taking his total tally to 35.

Essendon skipper Jobe Watson's 35 possessions in the Bombers' 139-point demolition of the Gold Coast Suns wasn't quite enough to earn him a perfect score, with the coaches awarding him nine votes.

Watson now sits just two votes behind Judd, while West Coast ruckman Dean Cox was the other big mover in round six, with seven votes giving him a total of 29.

Cox's teammate Matt Priddis scored the perfect 10 in the Eagles' runaway win over Melbourne, while Richmond young gun Dustin Martin and Collingwood premiership player Steele Sidebottom were the only others whose performances were deemed worthy of 10 votes.

Sidebottom was disappointing early in Sunday's game against the Western Bulldogs, but a three-quarter time bake from coach Mick Malthouse spurred him into action.

After the game, Malthouse described Sidebottom's performance as "very good and very bad".

''He made a couple of very poor decision-making errors and he very much knows about it. That's just simple fact," Malthouse said.

"He is a young man, we don't expect him to be perfect but he will be better next time when he is confronted with the same situation."
