The moment: Michael Osborne made a play for goal of the week early in the first term. With a throw-in deep inside his side’s forward 50, Osborne evaded three St Kilda players breathing down his neck, roved the ruck tap with his foot and watched as it sailed passed the outstretched hands of Sam Fisher to give the Hawks a vital early goal.

2. Geelong 19.13 (127) d Brisbane 9.10 (64) at Skilled Stadium

The moment: David Wojcinski collected a loose ball on the wing, took two bounces before handballing off to Paul Chapman just inside the 50. Chapman took possession, returned the ball to the Wojcinski before he turned onto his right and kicked truly across his body in a silky display.

3. Collingwood 19.13 (127) d Richmond 6.9 (45) at the MCG

The moment: There were highlights aplenty but it was the sure-footedness of Alan Didak in a flashy third-quarter display that stood out. Late in the term, Didak intercepted the ball in the corridor and charged in towards goal. With the dexterity of a mountain goat, Didak went left, he went right, and he wrong-footed about four Richmond players before he calmly slotted the six-pointer.

4. Essendon 18.14 (122) d North Melbourne 18.11 (119) at Etihad Stadium

The moment: Footy throws up plenty of good news stories. Kyle Hardingham was overlooked in four drafts before the Bombers took a punt on him this year and he didn't let them down with a debut to remember. He booted four goals and took a couple of massive hangers including this beauty on the goal line which proved pivotal in the Dons' narrow win.

5. Carlton 15.19 (109) d West Coast 11.17 (83) at Subiaco Oval

The moment: One of the turning points for the Blues came from a terrible Beau Waters kick. Eddie Betts swooped and ran into the forward 50, handballed to Jeff Garlett who ran into goal to bring the margin back to 15 points. The Blues won by 26 in the end.

6. Western Bulldogs 24.14 (158) d Fremantle 12.4 (76)

The moment: Barry Hall pulled out a unique trick to gift Brad Johnson a goal in the fourth quarter. The ball was going for a point when Hall lunged at it and slapped it back into play, with the power of a Roger Federer forehand drive. The ball went straight to Johnson, who simply tapped it through for a goal.

7. Melbourne 22.10 (142) d Sydney Swans 10.9 (69) at the MCG

The moment: Bringing the ball in from a point, Rhyce Shaw kicked to a dodgy 50-50 contest on the 50m arc. Addam Maric duly took possession and the ball went through two pairs of hands before finding its way to Liam Jurrah who slotted a magnificent goal. The Swans’ ineptitude and the Dees’ pressure, work rate and brilliance all in one passage of play.

8. Port Adelaide 13.10 (88) d  Adelaide 9.15 (69) at AAMI Stadium

The moment: Justin Westhoff had his standout game for the season. He was everywhere in the second and third terms kicking four goals. For his fourth, he took a diving mark and went back to line up from 55 metres out. He got a hold off an absolute bomb, to give Port and their new coach Matthew Primus a much needed victory.
