Today on kangaroos.com.au, we pay tribute to the contribution Adam has made to Australian Rules Football with a photo gallery comprising some of the former captain's most defining moments.
After debuting in 1995, it didn't take long for Simpson to taste success. In the centenary year of football the following season, donning the number 37 guernsey, he would play in North Melbourne's premiership team.
Ironically, the image captures Simpson with the man who would ultimately become his coach just seven years later, Dean Laidley.
Simpson had six possessions in the Grand Final after playing in every game of the season and being nominated for the Rising Star award, quite a feat for a 20 year-old in just his second season.
He continued to play regular games for North Melbourne over the coming years, and in 1999 took a big step forward in his career, averaging 22 possessions a game and again reaching the ultimate pinnacle as the Kangaroos took the premiership home for the second time in the 90's.
2001-2004 were defining years for Simpson; he would finish third in the Syd Barker Medal in 2001, 2003 and 2004 and take home the prized award in 2002.
2002 would see Simpson receive strong praise in the football world, highlighted by All-Australian selection and the opportunity to represent his country against Ireland.
Dean Laidley would be instated as coach the following year, and the two would again be given the opportunity to embrace after a win, even more so when Simpson was instated as captain for the 2004 season.
As captain, Simpson would lead his team to three finals campaigns in four seasons at the helm, including going just one win away from another grand final appearance in 2007.
He would go on to hand over the captaincy at the end of 2008 to another North Melbourne star Brent Harvey, but the 33 year-old hasn't let age weary him, averaging 26 possessions a game so far in 2009.
