Northern Territory has bounced back from a first-round defeat in this year's National's AFL under 18 championships to record a 23-point victory over Tasmania in the second game of the double-header at Optus Oval on Tuesday.

The Thunder 14.13 (97) defeated Tassie 11.8 (74) to inflict the Apple Isle's first loss of the championships.

Northern Territory's second half, which produced nine goals to six, was the reason for the victory, yet the Thunder could have won by an even greater margin, as the top end registered 27 scoring shots to 19.

Young gun Richard Tambling, who is rated as a potential top 10 draftee with many believing he could be a top three pick, was again outstanding with three goals. His dash, ability to win the ball and overall class makes him a standout in the championships.

His teammate Cameron Ilett was another who shone with 23 disposals, while Harold Calma was the leading ball-winner for the match with 24 touches. Relton Roberts and Bradley Stephensen also booted three goals each.

Two well-known AFL football names - Motlop and McLean - were in the thick of the action, with Aaron Motlop and Isaac and Mark McLean also significant players for the Territory.

Tasmanian Darren Crawford was again among his side's best, when he matched last Saturday's effort against Queensland, with another three goals.

Allan Bielski, Jarrod Garth and Matthew Wade were also fine performers for Tasmania, while Troy Murphy was good with three goals.

The first term was an even encounter, with both sides booting two goals each, yet the Thunder managed to lead by the narrowest of margins at quarter-time.

Again, the second term was a tightly-fought contest, but the Northern Territory extended the lead to five points, after three goals were added from both sides. Only poor kicking for goal - nine behinds - hindered the Thunder from breaking clear of Tassie.

Northern Territory turned it on in the third term, when it piled on seven goals to three, which set up its victory. The Thunder displayed its undisputed talent and this was reflected in some ripping goals from Roberts, Tambling and Stephensen.

Despite Tasmania outscoring the Northern Territory in the final term, with three goals to two, the Thunder's previous quarter was enough to set up the victory.
