Spelly: Hi Nathan, welcome back to the chat site. Congratulations on a wonderful football career ... it's been a great honour and privilege to watch you play - you're a legend! Now, down to business ... have you made a decision on your future - will we see you assisting Grant Thomas in 2004?

Nathan Burke: No decision as yet - there's been a bit of interest from a number of teams, but I’ll wait until the end of the season.

MILNE_ROX_MY_WORLD: Hey Burkey, did you ever play with Grant Thomas when he played for St Kilda?

Nathan Burke: No, I didn't - Grant was late 70’s, early 80’s ... I’ve been around for awhile, but not that long!

saintsbabe: Hey Nathan, what was your career highlight?

Nathan Burke: Probably the four seasons we made the finals’ – 1991, 1992, 1997 and 1998.

JAMF: How did you feel on the final lap after the game against Richmond?

Nathan Burke: I thought I might get a bit emotional, but it was a very happy occasion and something I’ll never forget.

noddy04: Hi Nathan, it’s good of you to come on ... how have you found retirement so far?

Nathan Burke: I’ve actually been busier than when I was playing - assistant coaching, and really enjoying that.

lenny_rox: Hey Nathan, what’s your opinion on the mullet - stay or go?

Nathan Burke: The more people that tell Fraser to get rid of it, the more likely it is he'll keep it!

Jones4Captain: Aside from the Saints, which team would you most like to go to? Would it be Richmond, so you could coach with Danny Frawley and Stewart Loewe?

Nathan Burke: If I went to another club, it would be to work under another coach that I could learn a lot from.

Spelly: Nathan, how did your daughters enjoy having Nick Riewoldt over for dinner ... have they changed the number on their jumpers to #12 yet?

Nathan Burke: They are both going to marry Nick at this stage, and I think it's a toss up between #12 and #35!

Steve_the_Saint: Do you think that Max Hudghton has a good chance of gaining the captaincy for next year?

Nathan Burke: He does actually, he's come a long way in the last 12 months - I don't know who they will choose, but he'll be in the mix.

_LUV_U_BURKEY: Burkey, most people said you were going to give your top to Luke Ball or someone else - is there any reason why you gave it to Clarkey?

Nathan Burke: Xavier is a young man of excellent character, as is Luke and a few others, but I’ve got to know Xavier really well since he arrived, and I knew he'd give it his best.

Steve_the_Saint: Why didn't you wear your helmet for the last game against Richmond?

Nathan Burke: Lots of people ask that question, but it never really entered my head.

sainter_12: The Richmond game was great, how did you rate your performance?

Nathan Burke: I started off okay, but once we got 10 goals up, I didn't really care whether I got a kick or not - I was just enjoying the game and every passage of play.

sainter_12: How much do you think we'll win by against the Cats?

Nathan Burke: We don't want to get ahead of ourselves! The Cats are capable of playing some very good football, but any win to give us 12 wins for the season will be a great finish to the year.

noddy04: Nathan, right at the end of Sunday’s game, Aaron fell heavily on his head ... is he alright?

Nathan Burke: Once he found out that none of his hair had fallen out, he was quite happy! It takes quite a bit to hurt Aaron.

burkey_u_superstar: How long has Harvey got left in him?

Nathan Burke: If his body stays injury free, he could go on for another couple of years ... whether his mind and body will let him do that, who knows. The type of football he's playing is just as good as he has ever played.

sainter_12: Who do you think will win the National Rising Star Award?

Nathan Burke: We've got 3 nominations this year, which is outstanding - it's hard to pick between our 3, but seeing we've won the last 2, we might have to share it around with another club!

_LUV_U_BURKEY: Burkey, when I was watching your last game against Richmond, and I saw you get a big cut on your eye ... you were laughing - were you just having lots of fun?

Nathan Burke: The cut has healed up okay, the scar is pretty evident, but it just reminds me of how fantastic the night was ... every time I look in the mirror!

sainter_12: Have you enjoyed sitting in the box with Thomo?

Nathan Burke: I have the last 2 weeks because we've won well, so there's not a lot of pressure ... we'll see how it is when the game is tighter.

saintbrat: Nathan, how did the team combat the cold and wet on Sunday? Also, thank you for your signature on my photo.

Nathan Burke: They played smarter wet weather football than what the Bulldogs did - we won the contested ball situations better, and didn't fiddle around with it once we got it.

lenny_rox: I read in the newspaper that X (Xavier Clarke) hurt his arm in the game on Sunday - how is he?

Nathan Burke: He trained fully today, and will train again on Friday – he will definitely be in the team this week.

noddy04: Nathan, did you go for the Saints when you were a kid, and who was your pin-up player?

Nathan Burke: Ironically, I went for the Tigers as a kid, and played my first and last game against them. As a young kid, Kevin Bartlett was my idol.

_LUV_U_BURKEY: What do you think Milne’s future with the Saints will be? Will he come back in the main team or what?

Nathan Burke: He definitely has a long term future at the Club ... he's performing well at Springvale, but because the senior team is performing so well, it's hard for anyone to push their way in.

MILNE_ROX_MY_WORLD: Who do you reckon has been the most improved player for us this year?

Nathan Burke: The young players have all improved a lot from last year - Lenny Hayes has continued his improvement, but it's hard to pick stand-outs.

juleslovessainters: Hey Burkey, had a fantastic night for your last game, what are your plans over the break?

Nathan Burke: Firstly, I have to try and find a job! ... and spend some time relaxing with the family.

sainter_12: Do you think Blacky will play this weekend?

Nathan Burke: He's a chance - unfortunately for Heath, we don't have any injuries so we don't have to make any changes. He had 30+ possessions for Springvale, so he'd be a big chance if we had to make a change.

noddy04: Nathan, it shows that we are in a healthy position when players like Black and Milne can’t get a game in the Seniors doesn’t it?

Nathan Burke: It certainly does - last year all you needed to get in to the side was a pulse! This year, we've got very good players who are missing out.

i_luv_stkilda: Hi Nathan, each week do you take any part in the picking of the team?

Nathan Burke: I have had a role for the last 3 weeks ... I’ve had full assistant coaching rights - it's a tough job, but an exciting job.

sainters: Burkey, do you believe in the rotation of the captaincy?

Nathan Burke: Yes, I do - Aaron got the job because of that system, and it would be unfair of him to keep it beyond this season - it gives players like Nick, Max, Lenny and Kosi a chance to get the job, whereas they probably wouldn't if Aaron had it for 5 years.

noddy04: Nathan, do you watch ‘Saint Scared’?

Nathan Burke: I’ve only seen a few episodes, but I’ve seen them do it live several times. As for a future in comedy or TV, hopefully they will continue playing good footy first! ... and they don't get injured doing their silly stunts!

sainters: Nathan, are you going to get your nose fixed?

Nathan Burke: Unfortunately it's looking like I will have to, not for cosmetic reasons, but for health reasons.

i_luv_stkilda: Now that you have retired, do you think you have been spending more or less time around the Club?

Nathan Burke: Actually more time around the Club - I have to be there for training, all the coaching meetings, and planning as well when they aren't training ... so I’ve been there more than I ever have!

Nathan Burke: Thanks for your questions, and hopefully I’ll see you all at St Kilda next year in some capacity.
