Hawthorn Football Club has made the following changes to its playing list in preparation for the AFL draft period and in accordance with the AFL’s List Lodgement No.1 deadline today.
As previously advised, Beau Dowler, Rhan Hooper, Beau Muston, Simon Taylor and Travis Tuck have been delisted, while Campbell Brown has departed to Gold Coast FC.
The Club has added David Hale, from North Melbourne FC, and Kyle Cheney, from Melbourne FC, to its list, having recruited the two players in the AFL Exchange Period in early October.
Today’s list submitted to the AFL by Hawthorn will also list Chance Bateman as a veteran, sitting outside of the Club’s primary list.
Bateman’s veteran status leaves 33 on Hawthorn’s primary list, which allows for five selections in the November AFL National Draft (currently picks 19, 38, 55, 66, 86).
As previously highlighted, Tuck will continue to train with the group until March 2011, which will give him the opportunity to be considered for the final spot on Hawthorn’s Rookie List and the Club will continue to support Travis financially at this time.
Rookie-listed players who have been delisted include Michael Johnston (NSW Scholarship), Jarrod Kayler-Thomson, Garry Moss, Carl Peterson, Wayde Skipper and Cameron Stokes.
Rookie-listed players Luke Breust, Riley Milne and Will Sierakowski have all been retained, ensuring the Club will have four selections at the AFL Rookie Draft on Tuesday 7 December.
Trent Croad, a veteran, who was listed outside the Club’s primary list has retired.
While NSW Scholarship holder and rookie Michael Johnston has been released, Hawthorn Football Club is pleased to announce Will Langford and Jack Mahony will join the Club as NSW Scholarship Rookies in 2011.
Will, the son of Hawthorn great Chris Langford, currently plays with Easts FC in Sydney. Displaying excellent athleticism, Will plays across half back or in the midfield and has an outstanding training ethic.
Will represented NSW in the AFL Under 18 competition in 2009, but missed in 2010 due to injury and illness.
Taking the second Rookie spot alongside Will, Jack Mahony hails from Kiama, near Woollongong, and has been a most committed member of the Hawks’ scholarship program in NSW.
Jack has elite fitness and an impressive work rate, with the ability to play as a small defender or through the midfield.
Jack is the product of the fast developing football framework in the Illawarra region of NSW, managed by Dave Johnson on behalf of AFLNSW.
Again, Hawthorn Football Club thanks all the departing players for their commitment to the Hawks during their careers and wishes them every success for the future.
The Club would like to welcome new additions to the senior list David Hale and Kyle Cheney, and Rookie-listed players Will Langford and Jack Mahony to the Hawks.
