More than 1,500 kids arrived at their local footy training last night – on a wet and cold May evening – to have it brightened by a visit from the Power.Just about every player on the Power list was spread across Adelaide on Thursday night, visiting 15 different junior football clubs to give our next generation of footballers a helping hand.At North Haven Football Club, Steven Salopek, Nathan Krakouer and Troy Chaplin arrived to find the large majority of the kids wearing Power guernseys.Salopek soon decided he’d put some physical pressure on the primary school age kids, grabbing a pad and pushing it into them after they’d taken possession of the footy in a drill. This fired some of the youngsters up, who, after kicking the ball away, came back to give Salopek a shove back! After copping more than he gave out, Salopek told the North Haven youngsters to work on side-stepping an opponent and creating space for yourself instead of trying to handball with an opponent right in your face.Over at Port Districts, Brett Ebert reminisced about playing for SMOSH West Lakes and having to face the always tough Port Districts line-up. He was at the club with Peter Burgoyne, who brought his three boys – Jase, Trent and Rome – along.Burgoyne showed you’re never too big to join in a footy drill – he lined up with all the other kids to have his turn kicking to a teammate and running through to the next line, talking to the kids around him about how to improve their skills. At Hope Valley, one youngster was caught out watching Dean Brogan do a live news cross for Channel 9. So captivated was he by the camera and lights he forgot he was in the midst of a handball drill and subsequently copped a ball flush on the face! The footy club visits, which the club has received great feedback from, were part of the Power Skills program. The 15 football clubs who received visits from Power players were: Broadview FC, Eastern Park FC, Gepps Cross JFC, Hope Valley JFC, Kenilworth JFC, Lockleys FC, Mitchell Park FC, Modbury JFC, Morphettville Park FC, North Haven FC, Plympton JFC, Port Districts FC, Seaton Ramblers FC, Tea Tree Gully FC and Woodville South FC.
