North Melbourne took an unconventional approach to skills on Friday, heading indoors for its final session of the week.

Assistant coach Darren Crocker said training in controlled conditions at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre would prove more beneficial for the players than having to battle difficult conditions at Arden Street.

"With all the rain that's fallen over the last 48 hours the ground is basically under water," Crocker told kangaroos.com.au.

"We thought we wouldn't get what we wanted to out of it and achieve our objectives training there today. We just brought it to MSAC to bring it indoors and give the guys a really good session."

The confined spaces of the centre's basketball courts meant there were no excuses for skill errors and the extra pressure helped many to excel.

"I thought it was a really good session by a lot of guys. They got plenty of touches today and should feel good about themselves going into the weekend."

With just over a month until the pre-season competition gets under way, Crocker believes the Kangaroos' are well on track in their preparation.

"Things are going pretty well at the moment. The players should be feeling pretty good about where they are with their conditioning, the skill level's been really solid this week, we had a really good, strong contested session on Wednesday and we are really starting to build them up for a strong competitive phase."
