HAWTHORN vice-captain Luke Hodge says he has no inkling that Campbell Brown is set to leave the Hawks.

Brown is widely rumoured to be signing with Gold Coast under the rule that allows them to sign one uncontracted player from each of the 16 existing clubs.

The Suns announced on Monday evening they would unveil another uncontracted signing on Tuesday morning, just three days after Hawthorn’s season came to an end at the hands of Fremantle.

Brown, who last week confirmed he has received an offer from the Gold Coast, was at Hawthorn on Monday as the club debriefed from season 2010.

But Hodge said there was no indication Brown was set to depart Hawthorn.

“I haven’t heard that. It was just one-on-one meetings with Clarko today. We’ve got the rest of the stuff with all the boys and the group on Wednesday,” Hodge said on Monday night.

Hodge and Brown both came to the Hawks in the 2001 draft and Hodge said the team would miss Brown if he was to join Gold Coast.

“Of course. We’re still hoping he puts pen on paper with Hawthorn. I guess we’ll have to wait and see and we’ll find out on Wednesday or whenever he negotiates with the club,” Hodge said.

Hodge finished second behind Collingwood’s Dane Swan in the AFLPA MVP award but said he was honoured to win the Robert Rose Most Courageous Player award.

“You’ve just got to go out and play your footy the way your coaches and teammates expect you to. It’s great that the other players recognise that,” Hodge said.

“I guess just go when it’s your turn if the ball is there. Not have a second look.”

Hodge said he still had a bitter taste in his mouth after Hawthorn was bundled out of the finals race by Fremantle on Saturday.

“I haven’t really reflected too much. It was a disappointing finish for us. They outplayed us on the day and I guess to get to round 7 at 1-6 was pretty frustrating,” he said.

“I thought the guys did well to fight back in. To go out on the first week of finals is disappointing.”
