The Lions defeated Hawthorn by 42 points when these two sides last met in Round 12 of 2009 at Aurora Stadium in Tasmania.

The Lions will play their first senior match at Southport on the Gold Coast this Friday afternoon. It will also be the team's first AFL game in South-East Queensland for 2010. Three current Lions players - Vice-Captain Daniel Merrett, new recruit Andrew Raines and rookie Broc McCauley - were recruited to the AFL from local QAFL club Southport.

This match could potentially feature the three most recent winners of the AFL Coleman Medal - Lions duo Brendan Fevola (2006, 2009) and Jonathan Brown (2007) as well as Hawthorn forward Lance Franklin (2008). Fevola (1st with 89 goals), Brown (2nd with 85 goals) and Franklin (4th with 67 goals) were all ranked among the top four AFL goal-kickers for Season 2009.

Only eight senior listed Lions players - Luke Power, Simon Black, Josh Drummond, Sam Sheldon, Xavier Clarke, Callum Bartlett, Bart McCulloch and Bryce Retzlaff - are yet to participate in an AFL or QAFL pre-season practice match so far this year.

However, Black and Drummond were set to play in last Saturday's NAB Challenge match against Geelong which was cancelled at the last minute due to extreme weather conditions in Melbourne.

2010 Lions members FREE match entry

Lions full and season ticket members can present their 2010 membership card at the gate for FREE access to the General Admission area for this NAB Challenge game (subject to capacity).

A Lions membership marquee will also be located at the ground to allow fans and curent non-renewals to sign-up on the day and receive their FREE General Admission access as well.

All Season 2010 Lions members can also collect their new members-only cap by presenting the cap voucher contained in their Member Pack.
