Collingwood defender Alan Toovey is set to miss at least two weeks of football after breaking his finger in last Saturday’s win against Carlton.

Toovey injured his middle finger on his right hand in a marking contest in the final minutes of the match.

The 24-year-old underwent surgery earlier in the week and had several pins inserted into his injured hand.

“It was a similar procedure to what Dawesy had when he injured his hand,” Toovey told Collingwoodfc.com.au on Thursday.

“When it happened I knew I was in trouble because I looked down and my finger was pointing the wrong way.”

The premiership defender has been in superb touch this year, conceding just 14 total goals from 14 matches. He has missed just one match in 2011 as a result of a chest injury sustained in the round eight clash with Geelong.

“I have to wait for the pain and swelling to subside before I can get back in the gym.

“I should be in there by early next week and I’m hoping that I recover quickly and I’m back playing a few weeks.”

Toovey, who is one of the many success stories of the rookie-list system at Collingwood, has played 81 games since debuting in round 3 of the 2007 season.
