> Watch Luke Ball speak about the need for improvement after the win

Collingwood midfielder Luke Ball believes there is significant room for improvement, three weeks out from finals, after his side dismantled Geelong to the tune of 22-points at the MCG on Saturday night.

Ball was adamant post match that the Magpies have yet to hit their peak, even after reeling off seven straight wins and sitting six points clear on top of the ladder.

“For us it still has to be about building and to keep trying to improve,” Ball told CTV in the rooms after the win.

“I still think we have 10 to 15% of improvement to go.  I honestly think that after tonight.

“Well enjoy it tonight but we have a short week this week and will have to butter up again and keep improving.”

The 26-year-old laid a season-high 14 tackles on the night, one shy of his career best.   Last time he faced the Cats, Ball recorded just one tackle, a statistic he wanted to rectify on Saturday night.

“Our tackling is a big focus against Geelong, that’s one thing they do so well.  They absorb the pressure, they take the tackle and give off the handball.

“Last time we played them I didn’t have an effective tackle which was really disappointing.  Tonight I wasn’t getting my hands on the footy so I had to contribute in other ways.  To get a few tackles was good.”

Ball credited  his side’s ability to capitalise on the momentum when it was in his side’s favour while trying to stem the flow when Geelong was on a roll.

“A lot of these games are about momentum.  It was about when we had the momentum to make the most of those opportunities and when the momentum shifts, to be able to put a stop to it and control the tempo.  At certain times during the night we did that.

“In past years we would have crumbled a bit, but were able to keep building (to the win).”
