2009 draftee James Craig dominated in the ruck and had a big influence on the game in the stoppages. He had 34 hitouts including 16 in the last quarter. Rookie Matthew Wright also had a strong performance in the midfield especially in the second half picking up 16 possessions and kicking a goal.
Tony Armstrong played his first SANFL game since debuting for Adelaide in round one and had 19 possessions on a wing and at half back with his execution a highlight.
For the Panthers Shaun McKernan had a tough day on Nick Gill when playing in defence but was moved into the ruck at various stages and he finished with four possessions and 10 hitouts. Daniel Talia had nine possessions and six tackles and his work rate and attitude was good all day.
On Friday night Will Young was again good for Norwood in a losing side. He was named in their best and had 21 disposals and seven marks and his ball use was very good.
Rookie Ricky Henderson had another good performance for Central District in its 10 point win over Glenelg. He had 17 possessions, kicked two goals and had two goal assists and was very dangerous up forward, especially in the last quarter.
Jonathon Griffin played in the ruck and as a tall forward all day. He collected 14 possessions and had a strong ruck performance with 20 hit outs.
In the reserves for the Bulldogs Jack Gunston was good up forward with two goals and two goal assists and he finished with 14 disposals. Brian Donnelly (two kicks and five handballs) played as a tall defender and controlled his position well despite not getting many touches.
On Saturday rookie Aidan Riley continued to push for senior selection with another strong performance for Sturt’s reserves. He had 14 kicks and 10 handballs and was very good in close.
Jarrhan Jacky played on a wing for the Eagles reserves and showed good offensive running but injured himself in the second quarter and did not take part after half time. Rookie Luke Thompson struggled in defence for the Eagles but was moved forward in the last term and kicked three goals.
