Port Adelaide’s lean start to the season continued against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Saturday as the Power went down 18.9 (117) to 10.8 (68) in a Wizard Regional Challenge match played in torrid conditions.

Port's Matthew Primus, Josh Carr and Byron Pickett asserted their physical presence early against the Dockers.

Andrew Browne and Graham Polak received treatment in the first quarter before the match boiled over in the second stanza with Hasleby having blood flow from his scalp after a heavy hip and shoulder from ex-Kangaroo Pickett.

Fremantle captain Peter Bell was also brought off with a cut to the ear minutes later before Port's Josh Francou came off under the blood rule following a knock to the head.

The Dockers pulled away in the third term but Dean Brogan crunched into the back of Robert Haddrill in the final moments of the quarter to spark another melee.

Dockers forward Trent Croad and Paul Medhurst proved strong focal points up forward while Peter Bell was tireless and Dion Woods was impressive at the back.

There was little good news for the Power, which badly missed the injured Warren Tredrea's presence up forward.

Fremantle coach Chris Connolly may be in hot water after fiercely remonstrating with an umpire during his team's 49-point win.

The Dockers' mentor vented his spleen to field umpire Mark Fussell at halftime over the handling of Port Adelaide's physical play during Freo's 18.9 (117) to 10.8 (68) victory at Subiaco Oval.

But there could be more news to come out of the encounter with Fremantle's Matthew Pavlich appearing to injure his calf.

Pavlich suffered a suspected corked calf in the first quarter after opening the scoring with a thumping goal from outside 50m.

The 2002 All-Australian did not return and had a compression bandage wrapped on his right leg after the opening term while Paul Hasleby had his nose taped from a clash.
