It was raining goals at Chirnside Park as the Werribee Tigers returned to the winners’ list in emphatic fashion with a 63 point victory over the Box Hill Hawks.

Werribee was too strong for the young Hawks side, overcoming a shaky start to run out winners 24.17.161 to 15.8.98.

In a scrappy encounter, Box Hill could not contain Werribee spearhead James Podsiadly, who booted 8 goals in a powerful display.

The reigning Frosty Miller medallist, Podsiadly has shown a liking for playing against Box Hill, bagging eight goals and best on ground honours the last time the two teams met.

Podsiadly, who took 14 marks, was dominant all day and proved too much to handle for the young Hawthorn-listed duo, Stephen Gilham and Beau Dowler.

With seven goals to three quarter time, he capped off his day in the first minute of the final term, dribbling through a fantastic goal which sent the Werribee faithful into delirium.

Jarrod Young showed he is ready to become a regular in the Werribee senior line up, effecting six tackles and kicking an impressive goal, while Jordan Barham continued his good form in his first season at the club with a solid display in the back half.

Nick Ries (43 possessions) and Matthew Ball (39 possessions) worked tirelessly through the Box Hill midfield all day and might be in line for a call-up to the Hawthorn side.

Box Hill could also find solace in the performances of Simon Taylor, who was a prominent contributor all day, and rookie Beau Dowler, who showed he is a player of the future, despite conceding a couple goals to the rampant Podsiadly.

The Tigers now look forward to their K-Rock Cup clash against the Geelong VFL side next Sunday at Chirnside Park.

In the Reserves, the Hawks triumphed, 15.9.99 to 10.12.72.
