Star Cat completes main training session and set to take on Hawks
GEELONG star Steve Johnson is all but certain to line up in Friday night's qualifying final against Hawthorn after completing the Cats' main training session at Simonds Stadium on Wednesday.
Johnson, who has missed the club's last three matches due to soreness in his right foot, received a big cheer from his teammates when he walked out to start training.
"You know what Stevie's like. He was waiting for the cameras to come out there so he could get a bit of attention," Geelong defender Corey Enright told AFL.com.au after the session.
"But he trained pretty well, so he looked good. Fingers crossed that he pulls up OK.
"It's always good to have your better players out there, and he's definitely one of our better players."
Prior to the training session, Cats veteran James Kelly acknowledged that Johnson will probably be a fraction rusty early on against the Hawks.
"As good a player as Stevie is, I think everyone takes a bit of time to adjust (to the tempo of finals footy)," he said.
"Having said that, Stevie lives for September and he really prides himself on playing his best footy at this time of the year, so he's got too big of an ego not to play well.
"So I'm sure he'll be fine."
Asked if Johnson has been enjoying the spotlight he's been under in recent weeks, Kelly said, "I'm sure he is."
Kelly then added, "He's just focused on getting himself right, which I'm pretty confident he will be."
