GEELONG skipper Joel Selwood has signed a two-year contract extension that will almost certainly see him remain at Simonds Stadium for the rest of his distinguished career.

The contract extension means the 27-year-old will be 31 when his latest deal expires at the end of 2019.

Cats football manager Steve Hocking confirmed this was a lifetime deal for Selwood.

"Joel is an outstanding leader of our club, the ultimate professional, and we are really pleased to have extended his services over the next four seasons," Hocking said.

"His list of accolades speak for themselves and his work ethic and determination is admired by his teammates and coaches.

"Both Joel and the club are pleased to get this arrangement agreed so quickly and it seems almost certain now that Joel will spend his entire career with the Cats.

"Joel has enjoyed a great deal of success already in his career, but it’s clear that he is hungry to achieve even more in the coming years."

Selwood – who was selected by the Cats with pick No.7 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft – has played 204 games since making his debut in round one, 2007.

He is a three-time premiership player (2007, 2009 and 2011), a four-time All Australian (including being named captain in 2013 and 2014) and three-time Carji Greeves Medallist.

Selwood is due to speak to the media later on Monday at Geelong's open training session at Simonds Stadium.
