AFTER completing almost the entire pre-season, Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett says his troublesome knee and shoulder both feel great and he's raring to go for 2016.

Ablett played just six games last season after firstly struggling to overcome a shoulder reconstruction and then suffering a medial ligament tear to his left knee in round 17 against Adelaide.

But with less than three weeks before the NAB Challenge begins, the dual Brownlow medalist says he has completed 95 percent of the pre-season. 

"The body is feeling great, the knee is feeling really good," Ablett told Gold Coast's website.

"(My) shoulder is feeling good as well, (I've) put a lot of time into it over the last six months, really strengthening it up and making sure I’ve got the range back. 

"I’m super excited about this year."

After months of speculation, Ablett was named the Suns' skipper for the sixth straight season at the weekend.

The 31-year-old said he had learnt plenty about his leadership in the past 12 months.

"I need to continue to improve in certain areas," he said.

"I’m always open to feedback and that’s the great thing about the coaches and the rest of the guys in the leadership group, we are continuously challenging each other and making sure that we are taking steps forward. 

"There are definitely some things that the leadership group have hit me up about and I just want to make sure that I improve in that area and continue to do things well that I already do well.

"I’ve been in the system for 15 years now, a lot of experience, played under a lot of good leaders, and the first thing is obviously leading by example but the second thing is helping these younger guys grow in whatever area they need too."
