ESSENDON says it spoke with West Coast, the AFL and investigators from the Eagles' troubled Grand Final years before appointing new coach John Worsfold.
Worsfold's tenure at the Eagles came into sharp focus following comments from premiership player Daniel Chick in News Corp papers last week.
Bombers CEO Xavier Campbell said the club took "great comfort" from its discussions with all major stakeholders from that period before settling on its new coach.

"We spoke with West Coast, we spoke with the AFL and we spoke with individuals involved in the review and the investigation at the time," Campbell said on Monday.
In 2007, the AFL announced it would hold an investigation into club operations, headed by Justice William Gillard QC.
The club then held its own review, led by Hendy Cowan and Steve Scudamore.
Worsfold said he had learned "a massive amount" from that period and the subsequent cultural rebuild that he led, and was comfortable his chances of taking over at Essendon would not be hindered by Chick's comments.
He said he was surprised by Chick's version of that tumultuous period in the Eagles' history and that was "certainly nothing that I saw happening at West Coast".
"It wasn't the truth for me but it might have been the truth for Daniel," he said.
"I know it has rocked him, the publicity from it.
"It's a challenging time and I feel for him. I hope he comes out of it OK."
