THE INJURY news is far better than it first looked for Carlton ruckman Daniel Gorringe.
After leaving the field during Saturday's JLT Community Series loss to Melbourne, TV footage showed the former Gold Coast player repeatedly punching a dressing room table in frustration and then holding his head in his hands.
Gorringe has had a history of Achilles and ankle problems during his career.
But the Blues said on Tuesday that he will be available for round one of the regular season, adding scans showed no serious damage.
Gorringe will be out of action for Saturday's match against St Kilda.
Blues football director Andrew McKay said they were confident he would return for their third and final pre-season game in Perth against Fremantle.
"Daniel was rested in the first half of the game against Melbourne, and then unfortunately stirred up his Achilles in the third quarter," McKay said.
"Given his history with this type of injury, we were cautious.
"But the good news is he will only be sidelined for one week."
