EX-MELBOURNE ruckman Mark Jamar has conceded his career at AFL level is over, and will play amateur football in Victoria next season.
The 32-year-old wasn't offered a contract by the Demons at the end of this season after spending much of the year in the VFL.
While he is currently in Darwin playing in the NTFL for the ladder-leading Southern Districts, he is planning on running out for Victorian amateur club St Kevin's in 2016.
"I'm working closely with local club St Kevin's in footy and to find my next career in construction," Jamar told News Ltd.
"I decided recently that I wasn't going to pursue the AFL."
The 155-game big man said two months ago his body was in good shape and he would weigh up whether he would pursue another AFL contract.
But having recently joined other ex-Demons such as John Meesen, Dom Barry, Daniel Nicholson, Aaron Davey and the currently-injured Austin Wonaeamirri in the NTFL, he's decided not to chase a career revival at the highest level.
"I have always said that at the end of my career I'd love to come and play in Darwin and with a few mates playing here and coaching here, it was something I'd always wanted to do and now can," Jamar said.
Jamar was a key player for Southern Districts in his first game in the Top End competition on Saturday night.
The Crocs beat Tiwi Bombers by 27 points at TIO Stadium with Jamar lining up against former teammate Meesen.
"I have heavy legs, obviously, from the wet track, but I loved it," Jamar said.
"'Meeso' and I go way back, so that was nice to play against him.
"I was disappointed 'Aussie' [Wonaeamirri] didn't get up to play, I'm good mates with him and would've loved to have played against him."
Jamar has expressed interest in returning to the Territory again for the next NTFL season – which runs from October to March – to continue playing for the Crocs.
