COLLINGWOOD premiership star Sharrod Wellingham is fit and firing during the pre-season competition and while he'd like to win the NAB Cup on Friday, he can't wait to help the Pies in their quest for back-to-back flags this year.

Wellingham had an outstanding grand final replay with 20 possessions and two goals last year and he's already showing every sign that he's ready to have an even better 2011.

Again on Saturday night in the win over West Coast he was superb with not only 21 touches and a super goal, but some inspirational and desperate acts that lifted his team into Friday night's NAB Cup grand final against Essendon.

"We are not going to be a team that's satisfied with one premiership and there's no point worrying about being good when you can be great. That's kind of our mentality this year," Wellingham said.

"The main focus still is to make sure we are ready for round one and by doing that we should put ourselves in a good spot to win, so that will be our main focus on Friday.

"I don’t think the build-up will be too big. Everyone realises that it's the NAB Cup, but hopefully we just go out and have a good game and can have a good win."

Although Saturday night's win was over last year's wooden spooners, West Coast was basically at full strength, Daniel Kerr aside, and were able to stay within striking distance most of the night. Wellingham felt it was a great warm up to the real business starting.

"Our main point raised before the game was to just use these matches to prepare us for round one and that's what we are aiming for. To come up against a good opposition, who fielded a very solid side put us in good stead.

"We said at the three quarter-time break that we had to knuckle down to have a crack because there was no point letting the game slip away from us.

"It was always going to be better to play on Etihad Stadium next week instead of wherever else we could have ended up, so it was good to get away with the result."

As for his own form, Wellingham is happy with how his pre-season has gone and how he has played in the NAB Cup games so far.

"I think I've eased into the NAB Cup fixtures pretty easily and am starting to hit my straps now, which is good," Wellingham said.

"You don’t want to peak too early, but I'm just looking forward to the season starting and getting it underway."
