SUGGESTIONS that Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray would need to be rested after the trip to China are off the mark, according to Power assistant coach Aaron Greaves.
Hamish Hartlett said on Monday morning that Gray would be fit for the clash against Gold Coast in Shanghai but a long-standing groin complaint might force him out of the side afterwards.
But Greaves said Hartlett was wrong in his assessment of Gray's fitness.
"Definitely not," Greaves said.
"There's no issues with Robbie, he was fine on the weekend.
"He's probably been managed over pre-season a little bit, like other players around his age and with his medical history, but Robbie's in a really good spot at the moment.
"He'll play this week.
"Barring any injuries going forward, I don't see a time when he wouldn't play a game."
Earlier on Monday, Hartlett told Triple M radio: "I would say [Gray] would be right for China this week (and) we'll be able to manage him through that one.
"Obviously we've got the bye, then he might need to miss a week or two after that.
"It's a conversation that Robbie will probably need to have with (Port) fitness and medical staff in due course."
Once they return from China, the Power have a week off before they play Geelong (away) and Hawthorn (home) in successive Thursday night games.
Gray was kept goalless in Saturday night's 10-point loss to West Coast at Adelaide Oval, but overall he's been an important part of the Power's forward line, booting 18 goals this season.
"They (groin injuries) are fairly restrictive and they do limit your power and your training," Hartlett said.
"There are going to be games where he's not going to be able to get the output that we would like.
"But if we get the ball into his area one-on-one often enough he'll still do some damage for us."
