LESS than two weeks after being Essendon's first No.1 pick, Andrew McGrath has been handed the club's No.1 guernsey for next season.
The Sandringham Dragons star will take on the prestigious number after defender Michael Hibberd left it vacant following his trade to Melbourne.
The number has a decorated history at the club, having been worn by premiership Bombers Merv Neagle, Mark Harvey and Mark Johnson in the past.

The 18-year-old half-back/midfielder, who is expected to play a significant amount of senior football next year, said he was "honoured" to don the No.1 jumper.
"On our lockers are the names of the past players who have worn the guernsey and a list of their achievements," McGrath said.
"It certainly gives you motivation before training and reminds you of the hard work you need to put in if you want to achieve the ultimate team success."
The Bombers announced their jumper numbers for next season at their annual members' forum at Etihad Stadium on Monday night.
Fellow draftees Jordan Ridley (No.14), Josh Begley (16), Kobe Mutch (19) and Dylan Clarke (37) were also given their first numbers at the club.
Former Greater Western Sydney forward James Stewart will wear No.17 and ex-Brisbane Lions forward Josh Green takes on No.15.
Ruckman Sam Draper, selected by the club with pick No.1 in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft, will wear No.38 and category B rookie Ben McNiece, drafted from the Bombers' VFL side, will wear No.41.
