CHRISTMAS has come early for Gold Coast, with towering young forward Peter Wright signing a two-year contract extension.
The deal ties him to the Suns until the end of 2019.
The news comes just a day after young West Australian Callum Ah Chee also inked a deal that keeps him at the club for an additional two years.
Wright proved himself one of the most exciting young key forwards in the competition last season, kicking 27 goals from 17 games.
"It was a decision, which in my view, was always going to get done," Wright said.
"I am really settled up here – love the group, loving coming to training each day and I see my future here."
Wright said his strong friendship with Touk Miller was a big factor in his enjoyment at the club.
The pair played with each other through the Calder Cannons program in the TAC Cup, during national junior carnivals with Vic Metro and were both drafted by the Suns in 2014.
They have been housemates since coming to the club.
"It’s been a big factor for me (having Touk on the Gold Coast); I’ve known Touk for 10 years," Wright said.
"I feel really comfortable with him and coming up here at the same time, we were able to feed off each other and immediately feel comfortable at the club.
"I think that helped us both settle into the club quickly and from there, living with each other now and enjoying our time."
