He overtook Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury in third place overall, but will need to score 16.8 points against Hawthorn to hold on to that ranking, given Pendlebury's total points are settled for the rest of the year.

Selwood has scored at least 16.8 points in 24 of his past 40 games.

The star Cat's importance in Friday night's preliminary final can't be over-stated, with only Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell averaging more player ratings points in matches between the clubs since 2010.

Only Brisbane Lions forward Dayne Zorko, who has moved up up 264 places this season, has had a bigger rise among players who started the year in the top 300.

Jarrad McVeigh's extraordinary 20-possession quarter was not enough to give him the No.1 ranking in the Sydney Swans' semi-final win over Carlton, with Kieren Jack taking the points.

Jack finished with 30 possessions, 700m gained, eight inside 50s and two goals to notch 24.3 player ratings points.

McVeigh, meanwhile, had 42 disposals, two goals and five tackles, but ranked No.2 in the match with 23.6 player ratings points.

Fremantle has three of the top-four ranked players in clashes between the Dockers and Swans since 2010, with goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne ranked No.1 (15.5).
