THE DEPARTURES of Anthony Miles, Corey Ellis and Reece Conca meant Richmond wanted to stock its midfield unit and recruiting manager Matt Clarke is confident the club has done so.

After landing Riley Collier-Dawkins at No.20 on Thursday night, the Tigers added another big-bodied onballer in Jack Ross at No.43 on Friday. 

Then came a couple of outside runners in Fraser Turner at No.58 and Luke English at No.62.

"We targeted some midfield depth given some of the guys that were really good servants for us that went out in the Trade Period, so we needed to add a little bit of depth in our youth through the midfield," Clarke told reporters at Marvel Stadium.

Ross, who like Collier-Dawkins lined up with the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup, stands 186cm and has plenty of development left in him after having several interrupted pre-seasons. 

"He was really excited when we went to his house and spoke to him. We think he's got significant upside," Clarke said. 

"He's obviously had some injuries over the pre-seasons, for the last three or four."

English, a West Australian, will leave nothing to chance.

"Luke's work rate and running ability is really strong. You wouldn't find too many people that wouldn't say that's the case with him in all parts of his life, whether it's off-field or on-field," Clarke said.

"At that stage of the draft, we thought we couldn't go wrong with great character and guys that work really hard, and can really run."

Turner impressed at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships as a wingman.

"He's one of those guys that every time you watched a carnival game for the Allies or one for Tasmania, if Fraser wasn't getting the footy on the outside with his running, there weren't too many others who could do it," Clarke said.

Collier-Dawkins needs to develop but slid further down the order than many expected.

"He's a big boy. Our coach loves the big, strong powerful midfielders," Clarke said.
