CARLTON is set to confirm its captain and the makeup of its 2016 leadership group in the middle of February, assistant coach John Barker says.
The Blues have their family day scheduled for February 7 at Ikon Park and Barker indicated in an interview with SEN on Wednesday the club hoped to make a decision around that time.
"The leadership group will be announced in mid-February," Barker said.
"I'm not sure whether it will be exactly on that family day but it will be around about that period of time."
Carlton is yet to decide whether Marc Murphy will continue in the role he has served in since taking over from Chris Judd in March 2013.
Blues coach Brendon Bolton has said he was determined to keep an open mind before confirming the club's leaders, although he did say recently he had been impressed by Murphy's leadership credentials.
Vice-captain Bryce Gibbs and even boom youngster Patrick Cripps have been floated as possible alternatives if a leadership change was made.
The Blues sweltered through stifling conditions at training on Wednesday as the mercury soared towards 41 degrees.
Murphy ran laps around the outskirts of the oval as he continues to recover from a minor operation on his shoulder.
Matthew Kreuzer and Andrew Walker were among 10 players on modified programs in the club's rehab group.
Adelaide recruit Sam Kerridge joined Murphy for some laps and prior to the session spoke of his desire to break into Carlton's side on a permanent basis.
Kerridge was traded to the Blues in exchange for forward Troy Menzel in last year's player exchange period. Carlton also gained pick No.28 in last year's draft as part of that deal.
The blonde-haired midfielder, who played just one senior game with the Crows in 2015, said he was eager to make a big impression at his new club.
"Everyone wants to play at the highest level and I'm no different," Kerridge said.
"It's really made my hungry to make a big impact this year."
Kerridge played some good footy in the SANFL last season but could not get a look-in in a deep Crows midfield, led by Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane.
With Dangerfield departing for Geelong, it crossed Kerridge's mind to stay in Adelaide but he ultimately decided he needed to refresh his career.
"It's definitely been a bit of a freshen up. I've loved the vibe around here and I'm looking forward to what's come up," Kerridge said.
"It always crosses your mind (to stay). You've got to weigh up the pros and cons, but I got in contact with SOS (list manager Stephen Silvagni) and I really liked what they had to offer so I'm really looking forward to it."
