The ABC's 7.30 program in April linked Trengove with sports scientist Stephen Dank, who is being investigated by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) over his role in Essendon's supplements scandal.
"It's disappointing when your name's put next to it all and out in the public eye," Trengove told Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night.
"The thing that got to me the most out of it all was how it affected my close family. Mum and Dad being over in Adelaide, you can only say so much over the phone.
"When they're ringing you, worried about you, it affects you to an extent.
"It's never ideal to have your name linked to it all, but the whole situation doesn't affect me day-to-day and what I'm doing.
"You can't read into anything that's said and read in the public eye. As long as you yourself know that everything's good then I don't see why it should be an issue.
"I assume I'll have to sit down at some point (with ASADA). I'm unsure when that will be."
Trengove refused to answer if he'd met Dank.
"Look, that's one of the things that's a part of the whole investigation," Trengove said.
"Once that all happens ... I'm happy to sit down and go through specifics. But at this point in time, it's left up to the investigations."
Trengove was named Melbourne's co-captain in 2012, becoming the youngest skipper in VFL/AFL history.
Now 21, the former No.2 draft pick has struggled this season after missing eight weeks of pre-season training with a foot injury.
The South Australian is averaging 14 disposals in six games in 2013.
Trengove, who was eighth in Melbourne's best-and-fairest award last year, denied he'd been given the captaincy role too early in his career.
"If they (Melbourne's players) want you in that position then I'm all for it, stepping up and going for it," Trengove said.
Trengove said when he and Jack Grimes, then 22, accepted the co-captaincy roles in 2012 they knew it would be challenging.
"The form doesn't reflect the captaincy at all," Trengove said.
The Demons are second-last on the ladder with one win and seven losses.
