We look at who's hot and who's not heading into this weekend's games
COLLINGWOOD v ST KILDA
HOT: Josh Bruce was St Kilda's top-scoring player last round with 22.8 points, which ranked him 10th in the competition. The 22-year-old kicked six goals, had two score assists and took six contested marks. Travis Cloke was Collingwood's top-scoring player against St Kilda in Round 11 last season. He kicked five goals and had a hand in five other Magpie scores.
COLD: David Armitage averages 13.6 disposals against the Magpies but 19.6 against all other teams in the past five seasons. Pies forward Jarryd Blair has just three score assists in his last seven games against St Kilda. He averages 1.2 per game against all other teams. Blair has averaged 13 disposals from his seven contests against the Saints, which represents the worst output against any team of his career.
CARLTON v ESSENDON
HOT: Jobe Watson is Essendon's top-scoring player against Carlton, with 14.5 ranking points from his last 10 appearances. Chris Judd was Carlton's best player in the teams' round 23 draw last season, with 28 disposals at 82 per cent efficiency and two score assists.
COLD: Blues skipper Marc Murphy was once third in the overall player ratings standings, but comes in at 36th position now. Bomber Brent Stanton has been as high as 23rd overall but is outside the top 300 for total points this season.
ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE
HOT: Sam Jacobs was Adelaide's top-scoring player in round two with 25.9 points for his 13 hit-outs to advantage and 24 disposals. Melbourne forward Chris Dawes kicked three goals, collected 14 contested possessions and recorded a game-high 24.5 points in a best afield display in the Demons' stirring victory over the Crows in round seven last season.
COLD: Crows skipper Taylor Walker was Adelaide's lowest scoring player in round two with just two goals from six shots and eight total turnovers. Demons counterpart Nathan Jones managed just 11 disposals against Greater Western Sydney last weekend – his lowest count in four seasons.
HOT:Luke Parker is ranked at a career high 43rd overall and is fifth at the Swans. Giants midfielder Dylan Shiel had a career-best game in round two with 26 disposals, three goals, eight tackles and nine clearances.
COLD: Giants recruit Joel Patfull had his fourth lowest scoring game of his career on the weekend with just six disposals, however, he kept Demons forward Jack Watts in check. Swan Craig Bird kept Power skipper Travis Boak quiet last weekend, but was the Swans' second lowest scoring player with just 2.9 points.
NORTH MELBOURNE v PORT ADELAIDE
HOT: North ruckman Todd Goldstein is the top-ranked ruckman in the competition, sitting at a career-high 15th overall. Port defender Jasper Pittard was Port Adelaide’s highest scoring player in round two with 17.1 points. He moved into the top 200 in the overall standings for the first time in his career.
COLD: Sam Gibson was North Melbourne's lowest scoring player on the weekend despite winning 33 disposals. Just seven of his possessions were contested and his kicking efficiency tracked at a mediocre 46 per cent. Travis Boak averages 10.9 points against the Kangaroos – 18 per cent down on his career average. However the Port skipper had 29 touches and a goal when the teams met in round three last season.
BRISBANE LIONS v RICHMOND
HOT: Dayne Zorko is the Lions' top-scoring player against the Tigers, averaging 14.5 points from his eight games against Richmond. Star Tiger Dustin Martin was the fifth-highest scoring player in round two with 24.4 points. He kicked one goal, had three score assists and laid six tackles to complement his 31 touches.
COLD: Lions onballer Jack Redden reached a career high of 38th overall, but currently sits at 109th in the competition and ranks 14th at the club for points scored this season. Tigers spearhead Jack Riewoldt places 92nd in the overall standings – well down on his career-high of No.23.
HOT: Jack Gunston is the third highest rated key forward in the competition at 46th overall – it is the highest he's been in the overall standings. Bulldog prodigy Marcus Bontempelli leads all players for total points this season. He is No.1 in the competition for tackles and second for inside 50s.
COLD: Isaac Smith averages 6.8 points against the Bulldogs – 34 per cent below his career average. Smith did not play against the Dogs when the teams met in Launceston in round 19 last season. Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson averages 5.5 hit-outs to advantage and 4.8 contested possessions against Hawthorn. Against all other clubs he averages 8.2 and 7.3 respectively.
GEELONG v GOLD COAST
HOT:Joel Selwood sits third in the overall standings. Suns midfielder Dion Prestia places 29th in the overall standings – behind only Gary Ablett at Gold Coast.
COLD: Mathew Stokes has averaged just 16 disposals in his last three games against the Suns, although when the teams met on the Gold Coast in round 14 the midfielder injured his ankle. He has averaged 23 touches against other clubs in that time. Marquee Suns recruit Nick Malceski ranks just 20th at the Suns for points scored this season. He is the third-highest placed small-medium defender in the overall standings.
WEST COAST v FREMANTLE
HOT: Eagles forward Josh Kennedy was the top-scoring player of round two. He sits at a career-high 48th overall, fourth among all key forwards. Fremantle star Nat Fyfe had a career-high 30.9 points in round two. 36 disposals and 25 contested possessions were also career-highs.
NOT: Eagles ruckman Nic Naitanui averages just 3.1 hit-outs to advantage against Fremantle. He averages 5.7 against all other clubs. Dockers forward Chris Mayne has kicked just 14 goals in his last 25 games. He kicked 76 goals from 47 games in 2012 and 2013.
