Birchall delivered a jolting bump on Cat Mathew Stokes in the third quarter, which saw Geelong players remonstrate with the Hawk defender.
Stokes was forced to sit under a high ball as Birchall closed in on him and was unaware the contact was coming.
But Birchall is adamant his bump was fair play.
"I just saw the ball pop up and went at the footy and hit his chest and the ball, so didn’t get him high and just winded him – so all sweet," he told reporters on Saturday.
"I hit his body and didn't get him high, so no worries at all."
Roughead may also be scrutinised for an off the ball block on Geelong youngster Cameron Guthrie in the fourth quarter.
Roughead clashed with the Cat defender behind the play while trying to create space for Cyril Rioli.
The incident was caught on camera.
Guthrie left the field of play with a sore jaw and was checked out by doctors on the bench, before returning to the field of play late in the final term.
"If it was a split second decision, then that's all it was. I don't think there's much to it," Roughead said.
