DEVON Smith has been granted his wish to be a Bomber after the club traded its prized pick No.11 as part of a deal to land the Greater Western Sydney forward.

The trade is understood to have seen Essendon pass on its first pick at this year's NAB AFL Draft (No.11 overall) for the crafty forward, but the Giants have given back their second-round selection (No.24) and next year's future second-round choice to Essendon.

As part of the deal Essendon is also set to give its third-round pick at next year's draft to the Giants.

It means the Bombers are one-third of the way to landing their trio of targets during this Trade Period, with the club also chasing Western Bulldog Jake Stringer and Gold Coast's Adam Saad.

But it is also a good deal for the Giants, who didn't have a first-round pick at this year's draft and looked set to enter proceedings in the second round.

Smith nominated the Bombers as his preferred destination after deciding to leave the Giants, where he played 109 games and kicked 100 goals. The 24-year-old will add extra firepower to the Essendon forward line and is also expected to run through the midfield.
