WHEN Bradley Hill steamed into an open goal midway through the final quarter to kick the sealer in the 2013 Grand Final, Hawthorn fans around the MCG erupted with joy.
Among them was new Hawk defender Jack Scrimshaw.
TRADE PERIOD VERDICT How did your club fare?
Scrimshaw was traded to the club from Gold Coast earlier this month in exchange for a future fourth-round draft pick.
Less than two years ago, the rangy half-back flanker was the seventh selection overall at the 2017 NAB AFL Draft. He played just four games for the Suns.
As the trade to the Hawks went down, it emerged that Scrimshaw was a Hawthorn supporter. But he might be a bit more than that. Fanatic might be the more operative word.
After Hill kicked the goal and ran towards the crowd to celebrate, one lucky fan even received a high-five from the Hawk wingman.
And vision from the game clearly shows that the overjoyed fan was Scrimshaw, at the time a 15-year-old Haileybury College student.
Jack Scrimshaw has always been a Hawk at heart.

In a recent social media post, his father, David Scrimshaw discussed Jack's passion for the Hawks.
"Jack has barracked for the Hawks all his life, idolised Crawf (Shane Crawford) and Willo in the 2000s and then later Buddy (Lance Franklin), Roughy (Jarryd Roughead), Cyril (Rioli) and Birch (Grant Birchall)," he wrote.
Scrimshaw battled with injury and homesickness during his time with the Suns, but according to his father, returning to Victoria and playing for the club he loves could be just the tonic to kick-start his career.
"I've got no doubt this trade by the Hawks was a clever decision by Clarko (coach Alastair Clarkson) and Wrighty (general manager of football, Graham Wright)," he wrote.
"In just the first meeting with Clarko it has had a tremendous impact on him. He is really up and about! Fingers crossed if he can do a full pre-season, the Hawks fans will be delighted with him I’m sure."
Scrimshaw has been likened to Grant Birchall in how he plays and depending on his progress, could be the replacement for Ryan Burton, who was traded to Port Adelaide as part of the deal that landed Chad Wingard.
It appears the Hawks are heading to the Kokoda Track for one of their semi-regular trips this summer and according to David Scrimshaw, it will be a fantastic opportunity for Jack.
"We are all very much looking forward to 2019! It can’t come quick enough," he said.
