Charman, who announced his retirement from AFL in August, will commence with the Lions in a dual role, involving both ruck coaching and corporate business development.
Charman has long been involved in mentoring the Club's young ruckmen during an unlucky string of injuries late in his career, and will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the coaching role.
Charman will divide his time between the field and the office, with the key business relationships that he formed over the course of his career with the Lions making him an ideal fit for a Business Development role in addition to his coaching duties.
Charman said that he was excited for this next step in his career.
“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and it’s a great opportunity for me here at the Lions,” Charman said.
“To be able to further my experience in corporate relations, while continuing to be a part of the footy group and work with our ruckmen is a unique and really exciting opportunity.”
“We’ve got a great group of young guys coming through, and Matthew Leuenberger in particular is shaping himself to be one of the top ruckmen in the competition, so it’s hard not be excited about continuing to be a part of this Club.”
Brisbane Lions CEO Malcolm Holmes said that the Club was delighted that Charman would be continuing his association with the Lions.
"Jamie has been a great mentor to our young ruckmen for a number of years now, and we are thrilled to have someone of his knowledge and experience join our staff," Holmes said.
"Not only that, he has been an outstanding Club representative over the past 11 years and has formed exceptional relationships with players, staff, members and Club partners alike."
"Jamie will be a very valuable addition to both our coaching and corporate departments."
Charman's appointment finalises Michael Voss' coaching panel for 2012, with former Fremantle Senior Coach Mark Harvey and NEAFL premiership-winning coach Murray Davis both joining the Lions in recent weeks.
