The Fremantle Football Club will once again honour the ANZAC’s with its annual Len Hall Game on Friday night and Senior Coach Mark Harvey said the spirit and emotion of ANZAC Day brings with it a special atmosphere.

Mark, a long time participant in the traditional Collingwood vs. Essendon ANZAC Day clashes, believes the build ups to the games bring out the ANZAC spirit.

"When the bugle plays, nothing beats it,” said Mark.

"Then the adrenaline's really going and you need to go out and perform in the next two hours.

"You get that cold feeling about you and it takes you to another level for whatever reason.

"I think that's what these games do, it reminds people of the hardships of what people went through on this particular day and the build-up to the games is significant and it's very much now a big part of remembrance."

Friday night’s game under lights against Geelong is the 13th Len Hall Game and the club is proud once more to recognise our Australian War Veterans, the men and women who served their country fearlessly and courageously and we remember the sacrifice of those who did not return from war.

The Len Hall Game is named in honour of WA’s last Gallipoli veteran Len Hall, 1897-1999, a member of the 10th Light Horse Regiment and one of the last men to leave Gallipoli. Len enlisted in August 1914 and saw service at Gallipoli and in the Middle East at Beersheeba. Len was born in May 1897 just one day after the very first VFL football match.

In this year’s ceremony, the club will pay special tribute to legacy of Len Hall, the 10th Light Horse Regiment and the service will also recognise the NAVY and the discovery of the HMAS Sydney.

The pre-match ceremony starts at 6.20pm but come bouncedown at 6.40pm, the team will have all eyes on Geelong.

"The main focus is about football, but you make players understand the relevance of the day and how Australians would want them to play the sport and represent what we've done in the wars, so its however you get that across to the players but them manage to get the best out of them from a playing aspect in intrinsic," Mark said.

Fremantle's annual Len Hall Tribute Game has also been given extra credence by being scheduled on ANZAC Day and celebrates the ANZAC spirit – courage, sacrifice and mateship.
