THE WESTERN Bulldogs will "take absolutely no risk" with skipper Robert Murphy's hamstring injury despite their floundering season seeing them in major danger of missing finals.
Murphy, 35, missed last Friday's 59-point loss to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with a hamstring injury.
The result left the Dogs in 11th spot at 7-8 with a percentage of 92.
He has played one match of the Dogs' last five after he had knee surgery while recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in round 10 against St Kilda.
That was the opposite hamstring to the one he is currently dealing with.
Medical services manager Chris Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au a conservative approach would be taken with the veteran who is in his 18th year.
"We're going to take absolutely no risk with Bob and make sure he's pristine before we put him back into full training, but we'll assess him this week to see if he's in line with that," Bell said.
"If he completes full training, he'll come back in line with availability."
He hurt himself while stretching for a football at the club's main training session last week.
Fellow backman Shane Biggs could overcome calf tightness to be fit to face Carlton at the MCG on Sunday, provided he returns to full training this week.
Meanwhile, ruckman Tom Cambell will spend up to two more weeks on the sidelines with an abdominal strain he picked up in round 15 against West Coast.
"We'll be expecting him to get back into some main training in the next one-to-two weeks," Bell said.
Campbell has resumed running.
