NATHAN Buckley has dismissed reports Collingwood has spoken to former Essendon coach James Hird about a role on the club's coaching panel.
With the Magpies needing to replace midfield coach Scott Burns after he crossed to Hawthorn this week, and with the perception Buckley needs a senior assistant to help guide him through his new two-year deal, Hird was linked with a move to the Pies.
The Essendon great hasn't held a role at an AFL club since 2015 after leaving the Bombers in the fallout from the supplements scandal that engulfed the club.
Speaking on SEN on Friday morning, Buckley quashed speculation Hird had been sounded out about a role at the Holden Centre.
"James is not someone that we have spoken to," Buckley said.
"We'll talk to anyone that we thought would help the club. I'm not going to shut out any possibility.
"When it comes to coaching appointments, (football manager) Geoff Walsh and I would be on top of that."
Matthew Boyd was spotted this week meeting with Buckley, but the Collingwood coach said he was just sounding out the recently retired Bulldog's plans for life after football.
"He's retiring, he's pretty keen to move into coaching, he has a commerce degree, so this will be a stepping stone to what he wants to do in his post-football career," Buckley said.
"Those football conversations with real football people, you learn a lot from.
"I got a lot out of that chat."
