Today, we take a look at a returning son of South Australia, ready to produce big Fantasy numbers under Ken Hinkley's tutelage.
The 21 year old was taken at pick No. 5 overall in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft but managed to play just 16 senior games for the Lions.
Last year Polec played his first and only game in round three and had a quiet night with nine disposals and 31 Fantasy points.
Fantasy lock-ins: midfielders
He injured his ankle in the last quarter and spent the second half of the season playing in the NEAFL.
As a junior, Polec had the sixth highest Fantasy average at the NAB Under-18 Championships, racking up 87 points per game. In his time at the Lions, he has averaged a modest 54 points per game.
Fantasy coaches are in luck this year as Polec is priced at just $135,500; cheaper than most draftees.
The question is: will he get the increased opportunity that he’s hoping for at his new club?
After a slow start to his time at Alberton with a poor showing in an early time trial due to illness, he improved on this by more than a minute at the beginning of January.
In a big positive for Polec and his new club, he is in the best shape he has been since starting his AFL career.
The Power played a trial match a couple of weeks ago and whilst he wasn’t part of the supposed ‘A’ side, Polec got his hands on the Sherrin a few times in a positive showing in front of fans at the family day.
On Sunday, Port Adelaide played their first NAB Challenge game, the mini-Showdown against Adelaide at Richmond Oval.
They went into the game relatively undermanned, missing some of their major ball winners in Travis Boak, Kane Cornes, Chad Wingard and Brad Ebert.
Polec embraced the opportunity to be one of the best for the Power finishing with 12 kicks, eight handballs, seven marks and 91 Fantasy points.
He spent 69% of the game on the ground playing off half-back and, as the match rolled on, through the midfield scoring 42 of his Fantasy points in the third term.
His clearance work and effort around stoppages were highlights of his NAB Challenge match.
LOCKABILITY: 3/5
It was great Polec back amongst the top Fantasy scorers after the opening clash with the Crows.
Before we get too excited we must remember that the Power were missing quite a few players from their best 22.
The challenge for Polec over the next month is to cement a spot in Port's line-up and hopefully avoid the green vest.
