HAWTHORN tall Kaiden Brand has undergone a shoulder reconstruction following an injury suffered early in last Thursday's NAB Challenge clash against Collingwood.

Brand, who is entering his second season with the Hawks, faces up to five months on the sidelines following the surgery and could return to action late in July. 

The 19-year-old was playing with his left shoulder strapped and left the ground cradling his left arm following a marking contest in his first match for the Hawks.

Brand spent his debut season holding down full-back for Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill, adding size and strength and performing well. 

He was recruited with pick No.66 in the 2012 NAB AFL draft.
