NORTH Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw will be disappointed if Daniel Wells leaves the club, saying he hopes the unrestricted free agent takes into account how "unbelievably well remunerated" he was through his past injury woes.
Wells' future at Arden Street remains clouded after North's season ended with a humbling 62-point defeat against Adelaide in last Saturday night's first elimination final.
The Roos have a two-year offer worth up to $1.1 million on the table for Wells, but the two-time best and fairest winner has resisted re-signing amid reports Collingwood has offered the 31-year-old a three-year deal.
Kangas' desperate bid to keep Wells
Brayshaw said on Monday he had "no idea" about any Collingwood play for Wells, but suspected the midfielder was considering options at rival clubs.
"I know 'Wellsy' has had the same offer in front of him for a long time. I don't know what's holding that up, he's obviously having a look around otherwise he would have signed it," Brayshaw told Triple M radio.
"It would be disappointing to lose him. Firstly because I love him, always have. But secondly for the last three years he's been unbelievably well remunerated and played about four per cent of the games, so you'd hope that 'Pickers' (Wells' manager Liam Pickering) would keep that in mind."
Wells played 19 games this season in a welcome return to form and good health after he managed just 12 games across 2014 and 2015 because of foot and Achilles tendon injuries.
In better news for North fans, Brayshaw confirmed veteran spearhead Jarrad Waite was set to play on at Arden Street in 2017.
Waite seemed likely to be retained on North's list when the Roos announced last month fellow veterans Brent Harvey, Nick Dal Santo, Drew Petrie and Michael Firrito would not be offered contracts for 2017.
Asked on Monday whether Waite would be at North next year, Brayshaw said: "Yep, that's what I hear."
