EASTON Wood believes his latest hamstring injury is 'more significant' than previous ones, but the Western Bulldogs captain isn't sure if he's torn the muscle off the bone.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury during the second quarter of Thursday night's 57-point loss to Port Adelaide after he collided with teammate Bailey Williams.
Speaking at Melbourne Airport on Friday afternoon, a frustrated Wood was hopeful of avoiding surgery and an extended period on the sidelines.
"I've done a few (hamstrings) before and it felt like it was at the more significant end of the spectrum, but I certainly hope it's not off the bone," Wood said.
"Frustration (is the overriding feeling), considering I've done a few before, and there's that compounding element that I've done another one.
"I've been here before, so I'm sure I'll bounce back and get out there sooner than later."
Wood wasn't the only causality on the night for the Bulldogs, with star playmaker Jackson Macrae also succumbing to a hamstring strain, while Tom Boyd and Lukas Webb suffered serious hand injuries.
All three are expected to spend time to join their skipper on the club's injury list.
"It's definitely an outlier to have that many injuries, but we'll wait and see the extent of what they are because a few of the boys will be having some scans and getting some more information later today and tomorrow," Wood said.
"We're a bit bruised and battered, but I'm really proud of the way the boys fought it out in the end under trying circumstances."
In better news for the Dogs, key defenders Marcus Adams (calf) and Kieran Collins (ankle) will play in the VFL after injury-interrupted seasons.
