AFL PREMIERSHIP player Liam Ryan has been fined $1700 and banned from driving for 18 months after he was caught drink driving.
Ryan crashed his car into a tree and was nabbed at a nearby park in Armadale on July 2, with a subsequent blood alcohol sample revealing he had a reading of 0.138g.
The West Coast forward and his lawyer Terry Dobson did not appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday to enter a plea of guilty to exceeding 0.08g of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
Instead, magistrate Nicholas Lemmon said he had received a letter, including a reference from a representative of Ryan's employer, indicating he could proceed with sentencing.
Ryan, 22, was also ordered to pay court costs of $205.
The Eagles suspended Ryan for two AFL games at the time of the incident.
"Liam takes full responsibility for his actions and both he and the club accept that the penalty is fair and reasonable," West Coast said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The club will continue to educate Liam around this matter, always placing his health and wellbeing as the major priority."
Ryan told AAP last month he had turned his life around since the incident.
"That car crash really straightened me up," he said.
"I really had a lot of support from the boys.
"I had a bit of stuff going on off the field but now I'm fine."
