Other incidents assessed
Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Lance Franklin and Melbourne’s Mitch Hannan from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The panel said Hannan fumbled the ball after being given a handpass and bent down to collect the ball. Franklin was running towards the Melbourne player with his arms outstretched in a tackling motion when high contact was made. A free kick was paid at the time for the high contact. It was the view of the panel there was insufficient impact in the high contact to constitute a report. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Zak Jones and Melbourne’s Mitch Hannan from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The ball was loose with both players coming to the contest. Jones runs through the line of the ball and seeks to hit or tap the ball with his right hand to his advantage, making contact with the ball. At the same moment, he braces for contact with Hannan and high contact is made to the Melbourne player. It was the view of the panel that Jones was contesting the ball and no further action was taken.
Contact between Essendon’s Zach Merrett and the Brisbane Lions’ Dayne Zorko from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Zorko was running to the goal square to take a mark when Merrett sought to spoil the ball. High contact was made with an open hand to the Brisbane player. It was the view of the panel Merrett was attempting to spoil and no further action was taken.
