One of the events held today to celebrate the awareness week has seen Jeff Farmer presented with a Cerebral Palsy Community Excellence Award.
Community Excellence Awards were presented to a number of local individuals, businesses and service providers to acknowledge their outstanding support for people with CP.
Jeff Farmer was nominated by Ian Hett, an avid Fremantle supporter and CP sufferer, for ‘going the extra mile’ for a person with CP.
“I've been associated with Cerebral Palsy for a long time,” Jeff said.
“Two years ago we had a wheelie challenge at Fremantle Oval. Ian and a few other guys were there for the day and it was a fantastic day. Myself and Groves (Antoni Grover) were able to get into some of the motorised wheelchairs and have a bit of a race around with the guys. They showed us a thing or two.
“I've been privileged enough to meet guys like Ian. They're great people and to be able to be associated and meet, greet and have a relationship with them for a long time is a privilege.
“I always say you treat people the way you'd like to be treated. These guys are no different. They've been dealt a very tough hand but you see the way they go about life and the excitement, happiness and the joy that they show, they certainly feel a part of what able bodied people are able to do.
“My niece has been struck down with Cerebral Palsy. The time I've spent with her and the love and affection from both myself and the way she goes about it and the excitement that comes with every day life that we take for granted, is a privilege to be a part of."
