The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) and the Collingwood Football Club have joined forces to encourage more people to donate blood over winter.

As the AFL celebrates its 150th anniversary in what is considered a blood sport, Collingwood player Nick Maxwell is helping the ARCBS in its winter campaign to attract more blood donors.

Nick made his first ever blood donation at the Southbank Donor Centre on Wednesday and met up with a Collingwood fan and young blood recipient.  Leukaemia patient and Camp Quality teenager Robyn Connor is alive today because of close to 100 blood transfusions.

Robyn was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of seven and had a bone marrow transplant on her 12th birthday.  Today she’s a happy and healthy 14 year old thanks to blood donations from total strangers.

Do something different at the MCG Collingwood vs West Coast Eagles match on Saturday and check out the brand new Australian Red Cross Blood Service, the Donormobile.

Blood Service volunteers will be keen to show you around and get least 150th pledges to commemorate the AFL’s 150th Anniversary.

One blood donation can help save three lives.
