NATHAN Grima heads a list of North Melbourne players pushing for senior selection, although coach Brad Scott said he won't make drastic changes ahead of Saturday night's clash with St Kilda.

The Kangaroos hope to rebound in round two although Scott said he would not overreact to his team's opening-game loss to Port Adelaide in which it steamed home after giving up a big first-half lead.

Grima is favoured to come into the team after playing a pivotal role in helping the Kangaroos upset the Saints last year, however young gun Ben Cunnington will not.

“We've got at least six players that we're looking at very closely who deserve ... a spot in the side,” Scott said from Arden St on Thursday morning.

“But there won't be six changes because there are not six players that deserve to lose their spots.”

Grima was among a host of good performers for North at the lower level last weekend. Robbie Tarrant, Aaron Edwards and Ben Speight also impressed and will push for a call-up.

Last year the North Melbourne coach had just been appointed when the team took on the Saints and Scott looked on while assistant coach Darren Crocker sat in the chair for the round 21 upset.

Scott said he would take some things on board, including that day's absence of Saint Lenny Hayes and the unavailability of Justin Koschitzke and his own big man, Drew Petrie, this time around.

“We’ll have a look at it (the game),” he said. “Some things worked for the club that night but we expect St Kilda to be a better side again.

“They’re very disciplined, so we’ll take what we can out of that game but they will as well.”

As for Cunnington's impending AFL debut, Scott said he was tempted to unleash last year’s no.5 draft pick, but he would hold off for some time.

“He's not ready to play but we're all pretty excited by him. We've seen what he's capable of, but he needs a bit more match fitness before we play him.”
