WEST Coast midfielder Dom Sheed is set to miss 10 weeks with a torn pectoral muscle and Sharrod Wellingham will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a persistent knee injury as the Eagles' injury toll mounts ahead of round one.
Sheed injured his right pec playing for East Perth in the WAFL on Saturday.
It was the youngster's first game of the year after he missed the entire NAB Challenge while working his way back from minor knee surgery prior to Christmas.
Sheed will have surgery to repair the damaged tendon on Monday night and will not be available until round 10 at the earliest.
It is a disappointing blow for the 20-year-old who had a stellar season in 2015. He finished third in the NAB Rising Star Award after averaging nearly 20 disposals across 23 games in his second season at AFL level.
Wellingham will miss at least the first three matches of the season as he tries to recover from a knee knock he suffered in an intraclub match. He missed all of the NAB Challenge and has been unable to train over the past couple of weeks.
He was on the training track on Monday but only did some kicking and stationary handball drills.
The Eagles are already without midfielder Chris Masten for the early part of the season due to an ankle injury while Lewis Jetta is touch-and-go for round one due to a calf problem.
Jack Redden is coming off a limited preparation this summer due to adductor problems but has played two matches in the past two weeks and is available for round one.
