A FIT and firing Paddy McCartin is in career-best shape, with the promising young St Kilda forward impressing many around the club with his much-improved running.
McCartin, 21, was among a group of first-to-fourth-year players to train in a two-hour session at Seaford on Wednesday.
After last week setting a personal best in the 3km time trial, the first overall selection from the 2014 NAB AFL Draft again looked good as the squad spent the last half hour focused on running as the temperature hit 30 degrees.
McCartin has had his fair share of bad luck recently. His season was ended in June by his sixth concussion since 2014, but McCartin has returned to full health and is training with the main group.
Nathan Freeman trained away from the rest of the team but is not dealing with any fitness concerns.
A right ankle syndesmosis injury suffered in July meant he was not able to play again for the rest of the year, and Freeman kept training after the season ended so he could be nursed back to health.

Because of that, he came back a week later than the rest of the young players and despite the former Collingwood midfielder's enthusiasm to join in with the main group, Freeman is being eased back into the action.
However, he is expected to take on a full workload from next week.
The Saints had three players who were delisted from other clubs training with them on Wednesday: Tom Lamb (West Coast), Sam Collins (Fremantle) and Will Fordham (North Melbourne).
All three are set to keep training with St Kilda until Friday week in a bid to revive their careers.
