CARLTON coach David Teague is keen to keep Eddie Betts involved at the club next year, either on or off the field, as the unsigned veteran mulls his future.

Betts, who turns 35 in November and is on track to play game number 350 this season, reportedly held a meeting with Blues officials on Wednesday night.

"It's always a joint decision. We'll sit down with Eddie and have those conversations," Teague said.

"He brings a lot to this football club. Whether that's as a player or not next year, we'd love to have him involved.

"Personally, and from a club point of view, we'd love to have Eddie involved with us for the next five to 10 years.

"He's such a great mentor, such a great help not only for our small forwards but also from an Indigenous point of view."

Betts is expected to return from an ankle injury against Gold Coast on Saturday, after missing Carlton's important win over St Kilda last round.

Teague said ruckman Tom De Koning is "more likely than unlikely" to play having been subbed off against the Saints with chest soreness, while fellow tall Levi Casboult could possibly return from a knee injury.

Carlton is among a group of four sides sitting one win outside the top eight.

Teague, whose job has been under the microscope this year, praised the coaching group's support amid an ongoing independent review of the club's football department.

"With the review in the background, it does get into your head. The challenge is getting out of your head and getting back to what you can control," he said.

"The ability as a whole club to continue to focus on their jobs and get the job done and to try to put out the best performance we can each week is something the guys have done really well.

"Am I proud of it? Yeah I am proud of the group."

Teague said he did not know when the review would be finalised.

"I want to know the learnings. I want to see how we can get better," he said.
