COLLINGWOOD hasn't decided if Marley Williams will play in the Magpies' final practice match of the pre-season next weekend as he awaits sentencing for his grievous bodily harm conviction.
The 20-year-old was found guilty of the charge in an Albany court this week following a one-punch incident that occurred in his home state of Western Australia in 2012.
He was an omission from the Magpies' squad of 29 that was trimmed of Saturday's 48-point NAB Challenge loss to Richmond in Wangaratta.
Match report: Reid stars but Tigers too strong
Coach Nathan Buckley said afterwards that the club would continue to support Williams ahead of his April sentencing, but it was too early to tell if the young Pie would play in their practice match against Gold Coast next Sunday at Metricon Stadium.
"It is really early, the dust is still settling as you can imagine," Buckley said.
"It is a fair shock to him, but as we have said in our statement, we support him absolutely, we don't condone violence in any shape or form and Marley has shown great remorse for his actions.
"But his behaviour and his actions since that day have been exemplary.
"He is a young man who has made a blue but we will give him every chance to redeem himself, as he has in our eyes in that last year and a half."
The Pies leave the NAB Challenge series winless after losing to Geelong by two points last week and being dominated by the Tigers on Saturday.
Buckley conceded their preparation hadn't been ideal, having had three days off after the Cats' game before heading to Kinglake for their Australia Post Community Camp.
However, he said he wasn't concerned about the fact they hadn't managed a win in either game and Saturday's loss provided solid lessons.
"We're introducing some modifications to the way we defend and there's no doubt personnel is important in that,” he said.
"We were a little bit off today and Richmond looked like they were up a lot more than they were last week.
"You prefer to win, we should have won last week and just a few things towards the end of the game we took as a learning opportunity.
"All of our preparation is designed to getting into March 14 in good nick."
While Buckley admitted "not a great deal" impressed him about the performance, he was pleased with Ben Reid in the forward line, which produced five goals, and the game time given to Alex Fasolo, Tyson Goldsack, Nathan Brown and Dane Swan.
Fasolo played across half back in his first game since round five last year, which Buckley said was a chance to continue throughout the season.
"We have some good competition for spots in that front half, we are going to have midfielders who are going to bleed into our forward line," he said.
"'Alex has got the capacity to do both, with his kicking penetration and we just wanted to have a look at him down behind the [ball] and see whether he can make the shift.
"He was ok today, he didn't have his colours lowered."
The Magpies will embark on a training camp on the Gold Coast in the lead up to their final practice match against the Suns.
